How to add Hinglish captions to Instagram Reels
Upload the Reel to CaptionOS, keep the language on Hinglish, and it writes every spoken word in Roman script with its own timing. Pick a caption style, fix any word, then export an MP4 with the captions burned in and post that file to Instagram. It runs in the browser, so you can do it all on your phone.
Step by step
- Create a free account and open your dashboard.
- Tap New project (the + button) and choose your Reel (MP4, MOV or WebM). Vertical 9:16 is the Reels shape; square and widescreen work too.
- Keep the language on Hinglish (it is the default). CaptionOS transcribes the audio and gives every word its own start and end time.
- Choose one of 17 caption styles. Each one has its own typeface and motion; change the colours, size, outline or placement if you like.
- Read through the transcript and fix any word: names, brand words and slang are the usual ones to check.
- Tap Export and render the MP4. Post that video to Instagram as your Reel.
Why Hinglish captions for Reels
A lot of Indian creators speak a mix of Hindi and English, and their audience reads it the way they type it in chats: Hindi words in Roman letters. Captions in that same Hinglish are quick to read while scrolling, and they keep English words like “content”, “subscribe” or a product name exactly as people know them.
Many people watch Reels with the sound off, so captions carry the message until someone turns the sound on. Word-timed captions that highlight each word as it is spoken also hold attention better than a block of static text.
Tips for captions that look good on Reels
- Keep captions out of the bottom of the frame, where Instagram puts the caption text, the audio name and the buttons. The middle or upper-middle of the video is safer.
- Use short phrases: two to four words on screen at a time read faster than long lines.
- Highlight one important word per line (select a word on the video to recolour it or give it the style’s emphasis) instead of colouring everything.
- Use one style for a whole series, so your Reels look recognisably yours.
- Check spellings of names and Hinglish words you use often; Hinglish has no fixed spelling, so pick one (“kya” or “kiya”) and keep it.
